Further explained
Rattan & Wicker
When it comes to hand-woven furniture, the terms ‘rattan’ and ‘wicker’ are still sometimes used interchangeably. Rattan is a natural material derived from the rattan palm, which grows in the rain forests. Because rattan is not weather-resistant, it is only used in the weaving of indoor furniture.
Wicker officially stands for the ancient braiding technique used in the manufacture of woven furniture and basketry. Wicker is popularly used as the term for braided garden furniture and the material with which it is braided. This Wicker material is a fiber made of plastic that is resistant to temperature differences, is colorfast and easy to maintain, making it ideal for garden furniture.
